Creating a Community of Glam, Gratitude, and Giving
In every neighbourhood, there are people who quietly sow seeds of hope, kindness, and beauty. In Ogden and Riverbend, one of those people is Mavelina. Her recent initiative is a powerful reminder that the communities we live in are what we create—and what she created was pure magic.
Mavelina’s idea was born from her own experience as a teenager. She remembers what it felt like to struggle to afford the things that make grad day feel special—like hair, makeup, nails, or even a dress. Over the years, she’s seen her own children and their classmates go through the same thing. For a long time, she dreamed of changing that.
This year, she made it happen.
A Day to Remember
What unfolded was nothing short of spectacular. Mavelina gathered a team of hairstylists, makeup artists, nail technicians, photographers, and volunteers. Together, they transformed a space into a glam hub where graduates could receive all the services they might otherwise not be able to afford.
But she didn’t stop there.
After the beauty services were complete, the grads were treated to a limo ride—yes, a real limousine—escorted by a full biker gang. The sight was unforgettable. The message was even more powerful: You matter. You are celebrated. You are loved by your community.
Powered by Purpose and Selflessness
“I always feel like my purpose in this world is to give back as much as I can,” one of the ladies doing hair shared. “What I can give is my time.” That spirit of generosity was contagious. Dozens of others showed up to help, some from right here in Ogden and others from neighbouring communities like Airdrie. Many were local business owners, employees from The Station, or simply friends who believe in lifting others.
One volunteer, who brought her daughter and friends to help, shared, “We’re very excited for this to be a tradition. It’s a really nice thing to do for the girls and the boys who are graduating and make sure everyone has a nice experience.”
More Than Just a Makeover
This wasn’t just about makeup and nails. It was about dignity, belonging, and beauty—inside and out.
“I want them to see how beautiful and magical they are,” said one volunteer. “Every woman, especially young women, need to feel that self-love and confidence. Little micro moments like these are going to help shape their future. They’re going to remember this forever.”
And that’s exactly the point. The impact of this day will linger far beyond a few photos. It planted seeds of confidence. It gave kids a memory they’ll never forget. It showed them that there is a community around them that cares deeply.
Communities Are What We Create
This is what happens when someone decides to make a difference: others join in. Energy multiplies. Kindness ripples out.
Mavelina’s initiative is a powerful example of how love and generosity can transform not just a day, but a life. As neighbours, we are the architects of the spaces we live in. We get to choose whether they are places of connection, inclusion, and joy—or not.
Thanks to Mavelina and all those who stepped up beside her, Ogden and Riverbend continue to be places where every child can feel seen, celebrated, and loved.
Let this be a reminder: We are the community. And the community is us.
